Principal's Message:

Thank you to parents, guardians, staff, crossing guards, bus drivers, volunteers, and STUDENTS for a wonderful first week of school! As the new principal, I could not be more thankful or more appreciative of all the hard work, effort, and energy that went into bringing our students back to school and settling into their new classes. Our Vice Principal, Natalie Dummitt and I were delighted to be greeted with such polite and positive smiles, introductions, and welcoming comments this week. Our students have shown excellent manners and respectful behaviour. If conflicts or frustration did arise, I was so happy to see that the routine of restoring and repairing, and taking responsibility for one's actions is already present as a norm and a foundation. Moving into this week, all classes will be contributing to how we want to improve upon our routines, expectations, and norms to ensure we all feel cared for, valued, respected, safe, supported, and successful. We will be collaborating together to revise our school code of conduct and we welcome parents and guardians to share their input as well. The former 2021/22 Code of Conduct is posted on the school website for your review and the revised Code of Conduct will be posted no later than September 23, 2022. Please see the invitation letter from our School Council leads in the message below and we hope you will join us for our first meeting this Wednesday, September 14th, virtually at 6 p.m. See details in the message below. Again, thank you for welcoming me to Prince of Wales Public School. My own children attended POW from Kindergarten to Grade 8 so I have always held our school in a special place in my heart and I feel so fortunate to now be leading our school and promise to try my very best to serve and support our students and their families the best I can.

School Times and Yard Supervision and Safety:

The school day starts at 9:15 a.m. Staff are on supervision starting at 9:00 a.m. The school day ends at 3:35 p.m. and students are expected to go straight home, unless they are participating in a pre-arranged club or sporting activity with your permission. Please note there is no yard supervision as of 3:45 p.m or before 9:00 a.m. so it is very important that parents/guardians are supervising their children before 9:00 a.m. and as of 3:45 p.m.

We are a nut-free and fragrance-free environment. Thank you for ensuring that those members of our school community are safe.

Covid Protocols:

Please continue to support your child in using the school screener each day before coming to school. provincial school screening tool Most importantly, all students and staff should stay home when they are ill and visitors should refrain from coming to the school.

Student Verification and Parent/Guardian Contact Information Forms:

It is essential that we have all up to date contact information, including home address and emergency names and numbers. Please be on the lookout for these forms coming home this week and please return the next day. Thank you so much!

Communication With The School:

Please do not hesitate to reach out to the school with any questions or concerns you may have about your child, their learning and their wellbeing. It is always best to start directly with the teacher because they are with our students and know them best. With any questions or concerns, you can always contact the Principal or Vice Principal right away by calling the school office (705) 743-8595 and asking the secretary to have one of us paged right away (we are often in classrooms and may not answer our phones or see voice mail so it is best to speak with the secretary to get ahold of us.) Or you are welcome to book an appointment to meet in person. We strive to answer questions and resolve concerns as soon as possible with the aim of minimizing issues before they grow into bigger problems.

Families, students and staff are invited to walk, roll or stroll in the 2022 Peterborough Pride Parade with Prince of Wales! Join us to show your pride and allyship.

Prince of Wales Public School’s involvement in Peterborough Pride aims to further promote and support the creation of safe and inclusive spaces for everyone, particularly for those in our school and school community who identify as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, or Asexual (2SLGBTQIA+).

When: Saturday, September 24, 2022

Where: Peterborough City Hall

This is POW’s eighth year taking part in Peterborough’s Pride Parade!  We will meet outside city hall at 1:15 to take our place in the larger KPR group, behind our school banner.  Look for KPR signage!  The parade route will run along George street and over to Millenium park where families are welcome to take part in Pride at the Park events taking place that afternoon. Families are responsible for the supervision of their children attending. All attendees walking in the parade are asked to wear school spirit wear or our school colours of black and yellow! Everyone is welcome!  We hope to see you there!
